Figure 1 shows a seven segment LED display. As indicated by the diode equivalent circuit on the left, each segment is an individual LED. This is a Common Cathode (CC) display. All of the cathodes (or negative terminals) of the segment LEDs are connected together. I want to show digits in the range from 0.0 to 99.5, step 0.5, on a 7 segment display. I have 3 seven segment displays available, they are connected in a MUX, so I have 7 pins for segments and 3 select pins for choosing the digits. 7 Segment Display Verilog
We will be moving on to write slightly more complex example, this time a hex to seven segment encoder. Basically LED number is displayed with 7 segments.
The hexadecimal to 7 segment encoder has 4 bit input and 7 output. Depending upon the input number, some of the 7 segments are displayed. The seven segments are represented as a,b,c,d,e,f,g. A high on one of these segements make it display. For example to write 1 we need to display segments b and C.

7 Segment Displays
1. Change the above hex to BCD verilog code so that it take negative logic. A segment is on when it gets 0. A segment is off when it gets logic 1.Before we talk about common cathode LED displays, we first have to go over what is a cathodein a typical LED.
Cathode
Contexts 3 5 3 – fast window switcher. The cathode of an LED is the negative terminal of the LED. An LED has two terminals. Oneside is the anode, which gets hooked up to the positive voltage of the circuit. And the other terminal is the cathode, which gets hooked up to the negative voltage or the ground of the circuit.
So now you know that the cathode is the negative terminal of the LED which gets hooked up to ground.
Seven Segment Display Verilog
When you have a common cathode seven segment display, which is an array of 7 LEDs, the LED cathodes are all tied together and are common.
This is a typical LED display, with each LED segment labeled with an alphabetical character.
This is how the seven segment display will be wired up in a common cathode setup:
As you can see, all the positive terminals of the seven segment display are all separate. In order to turn any of the segments on, you have to supply 9V to terminal that you want turned on, meaningto each of the terminals. However, on the cathode side, you do not have to hook up each terminal to ground. All of the cathodes of the LEDs are tied together to ground. So once you hook up one to ground, all are hookedup to ground, since they're tied together and are common.
This is a common cathode seven segment LED display.
